Orius insidiosus
Beneficial Insectary
Treatment of Indigenous thrips and Tropical thrips
Orius insidiosus is a generalist predatory bug. Particularly effective in combating thrips, it can also be used against aphids, whiteflies, and scale insects. Orius insidiosus is fast, winged, and capable of moving between different infestation sites to reach its prey.
This predator is offered in bulk, in a mixture of buckwheat husks and vermiculite. Due to its tendency to disperse, its use is recommended in closed cultivation spaces such as greenhouses and grow tents, where it will be confined with its prey.

Questions
Can I use Orius insidiosus at home ?
We do not recommend introducing Orius insidiosus at home. These flying insects will be more effective in a greenhouse, a grow tent, or any other enclosed growing environment.
Can Orius insidiosus proliferate in my plants ?
Orius insidiosus require specific environmental conditions and a large quantity of prey to reproduce. These conditions are not typically met in an enclosed growing environment. Limited and beneficial reproduction may be possible in a greenhouse.
I don't see the Orius insidiosus I introduced, is this normal ?
Orius insidiosus are lively and easily visible during introduction. They will be difficult to observe once dispersed. Individuals are in different growth stages, so it is entirely normal for some to die after introduction.
Are there any risks associated with using Orius insidiosus ?
Orius insidiosus pose no danger to humans or pets.
Can Orius insidiosus bite ?
Orius insidiosus have mouthparts used for feeding. They can occasionally bite humans. This phenomenon is generally observed by greenhouse workers who are in contact with many insects.
