Treatment of Indigenous thrips

These Steinernema feltiaeĀ nematodes are microscopic larvae that target indigenous thrips pupae in the soil. They parasitize the bodies of their prey and kill them within a few days by feeding on their tissues. The predator reproduces in the body of its host and new nematodes are released.

This product contains four treatments to be diluted and sprayed on the soil. The two sizes allow for treating up to 60 or 120 plants per treatment. The quantities are approximate and are based on medium-sized plants in 8-inch pots. Adjust as needed.

Method

For treatment
Introduce one sachet per watering, for four consecutive waterings.

Instructions

  • Water the plants to be treated with the usual amount of clear water.
  • Fill about three-quarters of a clear paste sachet with cold water.
  • Seal the sachet and shake or squeeze gently until the paste is dissolved.
  • Pour the nematode concentrate into the sprayer and fill it with water.
  • Stir occasionally during spraying to keep the mixture homogeneous.
  • Spray the entire mixture over the plants soil as evenly as possible.

Precautions

  • Divide the concentrate if more than one sprayer is needed to treat all plants.
  • Use the concentrate immediately; nematodes diluted in water cannot be stored.
  • Store unused paste sachets in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.
  • Do not mix any other product, fertilizer, or pesticide with the nematode water.
  • There is no need to saturate the plants. Nematodes are mainly effective in the top inch and a half of the soil.
  • Ideally, check the viability of the nematodes by observing a portion of the mixture. A magnifying glass is essential for this purpose. The majority of nematodes should be bent or moving.
